1. Students walking home are dismissed out of the EAST side of the Elementary.
2. Bus students dismiss out of the WEST side of the Elementary building.
3. Parents coming to pick up their children line up on DeGroat Street behind or west of the school driveway entrance. We are asking the parents for their patience since this will be slow the first few times. Thank you.
4. We must leave
room for buses to enter the driveway, so have at least a car space
empty from the driveway to the first car in line.
5. After all three buses have lined up on the west side of
the Elementary building, the first parent’s car/van will drive up where
the buses were loading. (It is common for the third bus to pull in the driveway
at 3:20 because it is returning from Northeast or East Central’s High
Schools, so be sure the 3rd bus is in line.)
6. The parents’ cars stay in single file and parents stay in their car when they pull up to the west door of the gymnasium. A teacher aide will be looking to recognize the parent in the car and will send out the student(s) that belong to that car/van. After the student is seat belted in his/her seat, the parent drives out onto School Street headed west (turning right). This process will take fewer minutes each week as we become familiar with it.
7. Traffic cones on School Street and DeGroat Street are to block streets and one intersection for a few minutes around dismissal. This will protect our walkers and especially the students that walk to have their parents pick them up one or two blocks from school.
8. High School cars
dismiss east on School Street.
Our goal is safety. Fewer cars and more walking in the school area will help.
