Meeting was called to order at 7:04pm. Those present were Ann Bormann, Dan Beck, Renee Behr, Rhonda Adams, Denise Krogman, Tricia Legel, Dawn Carstensen, Angie Feller, Greg Geir, Brenda Tebbe, Denise Larson, Lynn Stoll, Jim Carstensen and Sue Zeimet.
Greg Geier motioned to accept minutes of the last meeting, seconded by Brenda Tebbe.
The treasurer’s report was read. There is $6350.00 in the Athletic Boosters fund as of 8-2-2010. Denise Krogman motioned to accept this treasurer’s report, seconded by Greg Geier.
There was discussion by Dan Beck about purchasing air conditioning for the Preston gymnasium. If fund raising occurs this winter for this purchase, installation would most likely not occur until next summer. There are two estimates for the purchase and installation, one from Bernie’s Heating and Cooling and Total Heating and Cooling. Dan Beck indicated that the installation would be more complicated than originally anticipated and that the purchase and installation could run somewhere around $25,000. It was suggested we propose this as a joint fund raiser with the Performing Arts Booster club. Tricia Legel reported that exact costs would be needed before grants could be applied for.
Greg Geier suggested the need for more gravel on the vehicle path behind and around the football field. Dan Beck will discuss this with the Superintendent as this may paid from the building and grounds maintenance fund.
The need for a hot water heater in the indoor concession stand was again brought forward. The popcorn maker for the indoor concession needs replaced as it is not functioning. This cost may be shared with the Performing Arts Booster club as both clubs benefit from the machine. Dan Beck will bring the up with the PPAB and estimated a cost of $500 to $1000.
Lynn Stoll, who is in charge of Parents’ Night, asked what date football parents night will fall on. Normally the date is the night of the first home football game, which is Sept. 3rd. It was suggested that we wait until the night of Sept. 17th. All were in favor. Volleyball Parents’ Night will be Sept. 28th.
Homecoming cookout will be Sept 29th. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and bars will be served. Denise Krogman will ask Lee Ruchotzke for the use of a cooker. She will send out a letter asking booster parents to bring buns, chips or bars. Canned pop and bottled water will be served. We plan, as last year, to serve approximately 200 people. Last year the following were used: 5 cases of water, 32 six packs of pop (a mix of Mountain Dew, Pepsi and Diet Pepsi), 13 packages of hot dog buns and 10 packages of hamburger buns. Denise Krogman, and Lee and List Ruchotzke will organize the meal with the help of other members as needed.
Ann Bormann reminded that the first volleyball tournament is fast approaching and so the concession stand will need to be stocked soon.
Denise Larson asked for a starting apparel budget. In other words, how much and what kind of Preston apparel should be purchased for the start of the year. Angie Feller suggested the addition of a women’s tank top as an option. Ann Bormann suggested a flier to send home with the students show the apparel options and prices. It was suggested that Denise start the year with 12 of each basic apparel item in each size. Rain ponchos were suggested by Denise Krogman.
Dan Beck suggested that the booster club donate a small about of money to Craig Reuter, who is sponsoring a Baseball Card Trading Clinic on Sept 4th in the Town Hall. The donation is used to buy prizes to be given away during the Sept 4th Clinic. Brian Behr suggested a donation of $50 and all agreed.
It was brought up that we need to be prepared to feed visiting football teams that travel over an hour for a game. Central City on Sept. 3rd and Dunkerton on Oct. 1st were identified.
Denise Larson suggested auctioning off all old athletic uniforms and trophies that do not fit in the display cases. It was suggested this be organized to occur over the Christmas break as more Alumni would be available then. It was thought that Homecoming would be an option but that it would not allow enough time to get the word out about the upcoming event.
Ann Bormann suggested the next meeting be scheduled for September 1st at 7pm. All were in favor and the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
