Seventh grade English students read a variety of selections: short stories and poetry from the literture text, non-fiction selections from a Critical Reading Series(Jamestown); and novels including The Outsiders and Face on the Milk Carton. Five parts of literature and vocabulary are included in discussions. Students will continue to understand the English language with daily assignments from the language text. They write themes that incorporate 6+1 Trait Writing(organization, ideas, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.) All students get monthly shedules detailing assignments. This class is collaboratively taught by Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Schoon with use of learning strategies to help all students succeed. |

Eighth grade English students read a variety of selections: short stories and poetry from the literture text, non-fiction selections from a Critical Reading Series(Jamestown); novels including Across Five Aprils and Among the Hidden, the play The Diary of Anne Frank , and a selection from Flowers for Algernon . Five parts of literature and vocabulary are included in discussions with emphasis on theme and how the literature relates to us. Students choose their own selections for quarterly book reports. To understand the English language, students will continue with daily assignments from the language text. They write themes that incorporate 6+1 Trait Writing(organization, ideas, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.) All students get monthly shedules detailing assignments. The class is divided into two sections with one section collaboratively taught by Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Schoon. A variety of teaching strategies help all students succeed. |

Students in English 9 read a variety of selections: short stories and poetry from the literture text, non-fiction selections from a Critical Reading Series(Jamestown)and Reader's Digest; novels including Witch of Blackbird Pond, Phoenix Rising, and the play Romeo and Juliet. Five parts of literature and vocabulary are included in discussions with emphasis on how the literature relates to us. Students choose their own selections for quarterly book reports. To understand the English language, students will continue with daily assignments from the language text. They write themes that incorporate 6+1 Trait Writing(organization, ideas, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.) A reading writing workshop is held on most Wednesdays so that students can work independently, in small groups, and individually with the teacher. All students get monthly schedules detailing assignments. |
