First Quarter
Science is Great.

Sr. High Science

Physics- Mechanics
Our study of physics begins with the study of mechanics. Mechanics is the study of forces and motion. Our textbook stresses learning the basic concepts of physics, but there is still a great deal of math application. Students apply vectors and trigonometry to physics concepts first semester.

Chemistry- Atoms
Chemistry starts with an introduction to matter and its changes. We then take a little detour to work on measurments, calculations, and significant figures. After that things get abstract as we learn about atomic models and the quantum mechanics theory of electron movement. As we move through second quarter we apply the first quarter information to formulas and bonding.

Biology- Scientific Method, Cells, and More
Biology starts with a study of the scientific method and how it applies to biology. This includes a study of data tables and graphs. These are key areas for ITED and ACT tests. We will then move to a study of cells, a basic biology topic. As we move through second quarter the study of biology shifts to photosynthesis, respiration, and exercise science.

Physiology- Systems of the body
After a start with lots of vocabulary and an introduction to biochemistry and a review of cells( with some new information), we will move through the human body (and by extension all mammals) system by system. We cover each system, its structure and function, how it changes through life, and what can go wrong. Each student will do a report on a disease each semester.
